What is called "proprietary software" in this article should be called commercial software (and even this wouldn't be correct, since there is commercial open source software and commercial free software. The distinction between Freeware and proprietary software is void because Freeware is proprietary software.This one is more comparable to List of antivirus software or List of word processors. There seems no logical reason why the list should be separated based on commercial or freeware.Shouldn't it be the "Vegas Family" or just "Vegas" instead of explicitly mentioning "Sony Vegas MovieStudio+DVD" (the low-end version of the Vegas programs)? It can in principle do everything one might ever need when editing videos (although it might be to clumsy to work on the command line). Is mencoder not much more than an encoder? I'd like to change this list such that it distinguishes between softwares that are just encoders and those that can actually be used for non-linear video editing.
